Digitalization

First of all, we decided to avoid any paper use throughout the entire project. The only exception to this were the three copies of each portfolio we needed as competition material. In fact, we used:

• For communication: Gmail and WhatsApp
• For project management: Google productivity suite, GanttProject
• For portfolio design and creation: Google productivity suite, Canva and Overleaf
• For marketing: our website, Instagram and TikTok

By this easy measure we calculated to have saved ~500 paper sheets (amounting to 40kg less of CO2 as a result of less trees cut). Additionally, this meant that apart from manufacturing our project was zero waste.

Since as we all know transportation is the second biggest contributor to global warming and significant source of pollution, we have committed to travel to team meetings, sponsor meetings and competition venues exclusively by using either public transport or car sharing. This meant we travelled nearly 3,500km less by car, and therefore contributed to reducing CO2 emissions by 530kg. Aiming to reduce our environmental impact also guided the criteria for choosing our sponsors. Prioritising local companies as our sponsors the transport of our manufactured goods would be more sustainable and if we had to go to their office we would not need to travel too far.

Materials

First of all, we decided to avoid any paper use throughout the entire project. The only exception to this were the three We paid attention particularly on the manufacturing process of our cars and pit display, know it could have a large impact on the environment. Our main sponsor Famar is an ISO 14001 standard certified company. Thanks to this we can be sure that most of our manufactured car components also have a lower environmental footprint. Furthermore our pit diplay’s furniture has been reused and crafted in “reboard” a flexible and lightweight paper-based material, completely natural and sustainable.
